Cooling Systems for Cars and Trucks

Livesey’s Motor Works are experienced at maintaining and servicing car and truck cooling systems.

What does a cooling system do?

Your vehicles’s cooling system removes excess heat from the engine, and regular servicing is vital to maintain reliable performance and to avoid costly engine repairs.

In a modern engine one third of the heat produced during combustion needs to be removed through the exhaust and cooling system to keep the engine operating at a constant temperature to achieve peak efficiency. Cooling is not only needed in extreme weather conditions such as heat and snow, but also when the vehicle is operating under stressful conditions like towing a heavy trailer or caravan.

The basic elements of your cooling system involve:

  • Radiator
  • Radiator cap
  • Overflow or expansion bottle
  • Radiator hoses and clamps
  • Cooling fan
  • Water pump
  • Thermostat
  • Water jacks and welsh plugs

How can you tell if your cooling system has a problem?

If your vehicle is using water we recommend you get the cooling system checked. Finding a problem early could save on costly damage later on.

Signs you may notice include your car overheating so check your water levels regularly. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge on your dash, and watch for any puddles of greenish or brownish fluid under your car.
